Plaque, which is a white film of bacteria, forms on our teeth every day. While it is recommended that we brush and floss at least twice a day, it is probable that some plaque will still be left behind despite our best efforts. Over time, dental plaque hardens and becomes tartar. Both of these substances contain high levels of bacteria, which are free to release acids to form cavities (holes) on teeth, as well as cause gum disease by infecting the gums and the surrounding bone.
Professional Teeth Cleaning
A professional teeth cleaning every six months is encouraged and sufficient for helping most patients keep their teeth clean, their gums healthy, and their breath fresh. Despite excellent oral hygiene home care, buildup can still develop under the gums and is difficult to remove with toothbrush and floss. We utilize the latest technologies in dentistry to deliver a comfortable, yet thorough teeth cleaning experience.
Teeth Cleaning Process
During your professional teeth cleaning, our dental hygienist or dentist will use an ultrasonic device (called a Cavitron or a piezo unit) that gently vibrates and dispenses water to remove teeth buildup. Research has shown that teeth cleanings rendered with an ultrasonic technology in conjunction with conventional hand instruments result in cleaner teeth and increased efficiency. We understand some patients’ teeth may be more sensitive than others and tailor the settings to each individual to ensure maximum comfort. After all the plaque and tartar has been thoroughly removed, we will gently polish your teeth to remove stains and render a bright smile. Lastly, we will floss to clean the sides of your teeth, as well as answer any questions you may have regarding oral hygiene instructions.
Our dental hygiene services are performed with a gentle touch, especially since cleanings are one of the most common and important treatments that patients visit us for.
Our goal is to make all teeth cleanings at D'Art Dental Clinic comfortable experiences with compassion, comfort, and respect.
